Here's how Habbo Hotel, one of Sulake's product is prepared for the Safer Internet Day activity:
About our SID activities
For this year's Safer Internet Day (SID) campaign we've prepared two new games and a multiple choice quiz.
For Safer Internet Day (SID) 2021, we want to focus on some of the different challenges young people face online. We want to highlight the importance of taking a stance against cyberbullying and being aware of the different methods available to protect ourselves and others from online bullies.
We also want to educate our players on the importance of thinking before sharing personal information online and being aware that once we publish something online we completely lose control over it.
Last year, we had the opportunity to team up with a group of players and joined the European Commission's initiative of making our terms and conditions (T&Cs) clearer. We want to continue building upon this initiative by including an activity where we highlight some key points of our T&Cs and why it's important to understand all parties' rights, roles and responsibilities.
What we are doing to support the SID 2021 slogan of "Together for a better internet"…
From the very first moment teens step into our virtual Hotel, we want them to know that they can enjoy themselves without offending anyone and that being tolerant when it comes to the opinions of and differences between others is the way to go. All players need to follow The Habbo Way, a code of conduct, a guide to how they should act in the Hotel. Those breaking the rules are not welcome and might be banned.
There is also a certain community spirit, driven by initiatives such as the Habbo Ambassadors, a group of experienced, mature Habbos whose main mission is to welcome new users to the hotel and show them the Habbo ropes. They also support our Habbo Way and give advice to community members on how to surf safely.
We are a community that is aware of our rights but, above all, we work to create a community that is conscious of its responsibilities.
This #SaferInternetDay, let's reaffirm that decision-makers are in a prime position to create a safer and better internet by providing a culture in which everyone - especially children and young people - can thrive online while remaining safe.
